Scabies in Ketziot: six sick prisoners named, five held without charge
A lawyer for the Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs met sick prisoners in Ketziot (Naqab) and reported scabies spreading among them. Five of the six prisoners it named are held without charge or trial.
Boils have spread across Amr Mansour's body, the Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs said on Nov. 1, after its lawyer visited Ketziot prison in the Naqab. Mansour, from Nablus, has scabies and his health has worsened. He is an administrative detainee, held without charge or trial under renewable military orders, and is on his fourth six-month order.
Mohammad Bakhit, of Askar camp in Nablus, has had scabies for about a month without treatment. Nawar Mushaiti, from Deir al-Hatab, has scabies and boils and has asked repeatedly to see the clinic, without result. Each is on a third administrative order.
Hassan Jalaita, from Jericho, was beaten and shot above the right knee during his arrest; the Commission called his condition "very bad." His seventh administrative order expires Nov. 9. Salah al-Bashtawi of Nablus, on his second, has disc problems and severe itching.
Thaer Bkeirat, 23, of Sur Baher in Jerusalem, was shot four times when detained, one bullet lodging in his left lung. After three operations he was placed under house arrest, then re-arrested on May 10, 2023, and sentenced to 54 months. He is short of breath and gets no painkillers.
Neither report carries an Israel Prison Service response.
