Two women in Damon prison describe gas and stun grenades inside rooms
Basmala Saad, 20, and Israa Hoji, 31, describe repeated raids at Damon prison, with gas sprayed and stun grenades used inside rooms, the Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs says. Saad was put in solitary after a raid on Oct. 7.
Gas sprayed and stun grenades used inside the rooms. That is how two prisoners at Damon, a women's prison in northern Israel, described conditions there, according to the Commission of Detainees' and Ex-Detainees' Affairs, which made their accounts public on Oct. 14.
Basmala Saad, 20, held since March 13, 2026, has scabies that has left blisters and swelling on her legs, the Commission said. After her room was raided on Oct. 7, she was put in solitary confinement. Israa Hoji, 31, also has scabies, which leaves her legs itching constantly.
The Commission also cited repeated raids on the rooms and a shortage of food, which it said is of poor quality.
On Oct. 5, the Commission published the account of Maha al-Rifai, 55, of Anata, held without sentence since Feb. 11, 2026. "Scabies has ravaged our bodies," she told a Commission lawyer, adding that she has suffered from medical neglect at Damon. She described her room as severely overcrowded, with three women forced to sleep on the floor.
